Vincennes University celebrated Red Skelton’s birthday with a variety of activities on July 18. The events were free and the public was invited to attend.

Tours of Skelton’s birthplace were offered from 2:00-6:00 p.m. (CT). The home is located at 111 West Lyndale Avenue, just one block from VU’s new Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.

Birthday cake and soft drinks were served on the patio of the Skelton Center beginning at 6:00 p.m., and clowns provided entertainment. In addition, all individuals with a July birthday were eligible to register for a free birthday cake.

Children ages 3-11 may participated in a Freddie the Freeloader look-alike contest. Winners received a gift certificate from the VU Bookstore and a WVUB-FM -shirt.

At 7:00 p.m., VU President Dick Helton and Mayor Terry Mooney will made brief presentations and the audience sang "Happy Birthday." A video compilation by Don Miller followed in the Skelton Center theatre.
