VU celebrates 2023 National Apprenticeship Week

Indiana is among the states with the most apprenticeship programs and most active apprentices, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Vincennes University recognizes the importance of bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world skills. National Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration showcasing the successes and values of apprenticeships during the week of Nov. 13-19, 2023. VU is celebrating the week with a series of stories and social posts featuring VU graduates and students.

VU opens new industrial maintenance training lab in Jackson County

Vincennes University has officially opened its new cutting-edge industrial maintenance training lab at the Jackson County Learning Center in partnership with the Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation, Jackson County Education Coalition, and Seymour-Jackson County. The facility aims to address the existing demand for highly-trained technicians and nurture a pipeline of talent ready to step into these positions.

The Vincennes University College of Social Science, Performing Arts, and Communication recently played host to an inspiring and collaborative summit that brought together educators from all levels aimed at ensuring equitable, effective, and modern learning environments for all students. The annual Phillip M. Summers Innovative Teaching Summit serves as a platform for passionate teachers, administrators, and VU Education majors from diverse educational levels and backgrounds to connect, share, and explore innovative ideas related to education.

VU Launches Instructional Video Series Showcasing Technical Training Programs

Vincennes University announces the launch of its new video series featuring a vast collection of instructional videos designed to supplement classroom instruction and provide exposure to technical programs and instructor expertise. The series includes 83 instructional videos completed by 22 instructors, showcasing Vincennes University's state-of-the-art labs and high-quality programs.

VU director receives supplier diversity award at state conference

Vincennes University Director of Procurement and Risk Management Michael Morrison has received an award recognizing his work advocating for supplier diversity in Indiana. VU Jasper welcomes 600 high school freshmen to Tour of Opportunity

To inspire and empower the future workforce, Vincennes University Jasper hosted Dubois County high school students for the Tour of Opportunity, providing them with a unique chance to explore local careers. This innovative event aims to expose young minds to various professions within the community, ranging from agriculture and arts to business finance and robotics.

Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy hosts ceremonial groundbreaking for fine art gallery

The Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy celebrated a ceremonial groundbreaking for its highly anticipated expansion on Monday, Oct. 16. The Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Art is a result of the longtime dream of Lothian Skelton, wife of the late world-famous comedian and Vincennes native Red Skelton.

VU announces major expansion of Aviation Maintenance program to fill growing demand

Vincennes University proudly announced a $4.5 million state-funded initiative focused on injecting further vitality into Indiana’s aviation industry and bolstering the Indianapolis International Airport’s growth. VU plans to expand the reach of its educational impact by doubling the enrollment of the University’s esteemed Aviation Maintenance program. In addition, VU aims to boost its high school dual credit offerings, enabling ambitious high school students to get a head start in their aviation education.

Businessman Mike Sievers was elected Chairman of the Vincennes University Board of Trustees during its annual meeting on Monday, Oct. 2. In addition, Gayle Baugh ’24 was sworn in for a history-making second term as Student Trustee.
